A lipoma is a benign tumor that occurs due to an overgrowth of fat cells. It appears like a lump under the skin. Even though they may appear malicious, these outgrowths are not cancerous. They just remain there on your body. One can leave it as it is or gets it removed. It depends on a person’s choice. People who are concerned about the cosmetic appearance of these outgrowths go for its removal.
Lipomas can occur anywhere on the body where fat cells are present. Some of the common areas where lipomas occur are shoulders, chest, trunk, neck, thighs, and armpits. In less common cases, they may also form in internal organs, bones, or muscles.
