Lipoma removal is surgery to remove a lipoma. A lipoma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor made up of fatty tissue.
Your doctor will explain how to prepare for surgery. You may be told not to eat or drink anything for 6 hours before surgery. It will tell you what medications you can and cannot take on the day of surgery. You may need to stop taking anticoagulants or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) several days before surgery. Arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery.
You will receive a local anesthetic to numb the surgery area. With local anesthesia, you may still feel pressure or discomfort, but you shouldn't feel any pain. If the lipoma is large or deep, you may be given general anesthesia. General anesthesia will keep you asleep and pain free during surgery. Your doctor will make an incision in your skin and remove the lipoma. The lipoma that was removed can be sent to a lab for cancer screening. To close your skin, your doctor may use stitches or surgical adhesive. A compression bandage will be placed over the incision to prevent bleeding.
You will be allowed to go home after surgery. You may have pain, swelling, or bruising where the lipoma was removed. These symptoms should improve in a few days.
You could bleed more than expected or get an infection. A pocket of fluid or blood may form under your skin. It may heal on its own, or you may need treatment to remove it. The removal of a lipoma can leave a permanent scar.
It is possible that you need one of the following:
Ask your doctor when the incision can get wet. Do not take a bath or soak in hot tubs for 4 weeks or as directed. These actions can cause an infection. Gently wash the area around the incision with soap and water. It is okay to let soap and water run gently over your incision. Dry the area and put on new, clean bandages as directed. Change your bandages when they get wet or dirty. Check the incision every day for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or pus.
You will need to come back to have the stitches removed. Write down your questions so you remember to ask them during your visits.
Sometimes a series of bumps appear on the body, called Sebaceous Cysts and Lipoma. In addition to presenting an aesthetic problem, they can become infected and cause pain. So the best way to eliminate them is to remove them.
Your doctor may recommend the removal of a lipoma or sebaceous cyst for cosmetic reasons. However, they can sometimes have symptoms, such as pain or overgrowth. On these occasions, surgery also improves the patient's quality of life.
On the other hand, sometimes the doctor decides to remove it to avoid the possibility of them turning into malignant tumors .
The risks of this type of surgery are minimal. They have simply been shown to cause pain, inflammation and bruising. In rare cases, pockets of fluid can occur in nearby tissues and organs, or damage to nearby nerves.
Most Sebaceous Cysts and lipomas can be removed in a simple operation performed under local anesthesia. Plastic and restorative surgery techniques are used , so an almost imperceptible scar is usually left.
When the cyst or lipoma is infected, it can cause pain. It is important that in these cases the patient goes to a medical consultation with the dermatologist or the general surgeon, so that they can assess the status of the cyst. In some cases, if the cyst is heavily infected, it cannot be removed immediately and the swelling will have to be waited for.
The lipomas are benign tumors caused by alterations in the fatty tissue which increase in volume. Their growth is usually slower and they do not hurt. They usually appear in adults between 40 and 60 years old. Children rarely have these problems. They usually appear on the back, neck, and shoulders. They are easily removed and there are usually few complications during the procedure.
The Lipoma or cyst epidermal are abnormal skin growth, with dead skin debris or content caused by an infection in the sebaceous glands. They can appear in any area of the body, although it is normal to see them on the ears, scalp, face or back. They are small and are usually benign.
Minor surgical techniques are often used to remove Sebaceous Cysts and Lipoma . Local anesthesia is usually used . However, in the case of large lipomas, the surgeon may require general anesthesia.
After the operation, the incision is closed with stitches. The operation lasts approximately 30 minutes, depending on the case.
Most of the time it is an outpatient surgery, so the patient goes home early (the same day). The stitches are removed between 7 and 10 days after the intervention. Shortly thereafter, the patient can return to a normal life. And care should be taken with wound healing, avoiding sunlight.
Surgery to remove lipomas or Lipoma is quick and easy. Depending on the size of the cyst, the surgery may take longer. The patient can go home the same day of the surgery, and must follow the medical recommendations for a quick and correct recovery. After 7 days, you should go to a revision consultation so that the surgeon examines the scar. The patient can lead a normal life, avoiding efforts during the first 2-3 days for the wound to heal properly. Usually within a week the patient will be fully recovered.
This surgery has a private cost for the removal of lipomas. If you have a greater number of lipomas, you should go to a medical consultation for an evaluation so that our dermatologist, Doctor, can make a diagnosis in consultation and inform you later of the total cost of the treatment.
In these cases, without a prior medical evaluation it is not possible to guarantee a fixed price, since it will depend on the number and size of the cysts. The price includes the pathological anatomy.
